Yet again, you have a list as long as your arm of things that need to be done ASAP and time is ticking fast. Even prioritising that list has still not helped!
Have you ever considered that perhaps not all those tasks need your attention? Are you just the person that does it because that’s the way it’s always been? Are there keen and able members of staff that you could delegate some of these tasks to?
Yes, it might take a bit of your time initially to fully explain to someone what they need to do – which of course makes you groan because you don’t have time! But trust us, making the time now can really make an impact in the medium and long term. Learning to delegate effectively means that not only can you be assured that in the future someone else can do this just as well (and perhaps even has some ideas of how to do it better!) you also free up your time to focus on other important issues.
By delegating a greater range of tasks you increase the flexibility and productivity of the workforce, as well as improving people’s motivation and making them feel more valued.
